Family Doctor
When I was working abroad a few years ago, the thing I was most afraid of was getting sick. As family doctors are common in foreign nations, people usually first visit one who later arranges for them to meet with a specialist or stay at a hospital. I didn’t have this, and could just pray to stay healthy. At that time, I wished I had a family doctor. This wish is now a possibility as Hangzhou rolled out a family doctor scheme in 2014, for which more than 500,000 people have signed up for.
A University with Hardto-Find Classrooms
When you first come to the Xiangshan Campus of the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts you will see green mountains, blue water, and white egrets all around. The modest-looking buildings form a kind of labyrinth there. I’ve heard that students often have problems finding classrooms. You never know what’s around the next corner – maybe another lost classmate, maybe the love of your life.
Mobile Bookcase
At tourist spots in Hangzhou, along the West Lake, in the plazas, the Qiantang River, sometimes you will find there is a bookcase under a large tree. These are put there so that visitors can come there to relax. You can take any book you like to read. You can also put books you like there for other people to read, and you can take a book you like home to enjoy. Does that not sound like a very nice scene? This is a city that truly is full of culture and warmth.
Bikes and Scenery
When you walk around Hangzhou you’ll find stands of public bikes parked everywhere. In the ranking of the 16 top cities in the world with public bike rental schemes, Hangzhou and Wuhan are both in the top three. Whether it’s in terms of total scale, usage rate, convenience or low fees, Hangzhou’s scheme is at the forefront. There are rental points everywhere, and people take more than 250,000 rides a day. Both city residents and visitors can use them, and with bike lanes and coverings to provide protection from the sun, it really is a nicely-designed scheme.
