Five new sites inscribed on the World Heritage List; Italy ranks first in the world in the number of World Heritage Sites
The extended 44th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Fuzhou began to review new nominations declared by various countries from July 24, 2021.
Five nominations were considered yesterday, and they were all successfully inscribed on the World Heritage List. The new World Heritage Sites are: the Hima Cultural Area in Saudi Arabia, the Great Spa Towns of Europe nominated across borders by Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom, the Lighthouse of Cordouan in France, the Darmstadt Artists' Colony in Mathildenhöhe of Germany, and a selection of fresco cycles painted in the 14th century in Italy's city of Padua. Italy, France, and Germany have two new World Heritage Sites added to their respective lists, and the number of World Heritage Sites in Italy has increased to 57, currently ranking first in the world.
The "Quanzhou: Emporium of the World in Song-Yuan China" nominated by China at this session will be reviewed this afternoon.
